چکیده

Multiple Description Coding (MDC) has proven to be a powerful tool for joint source/channel coding applications. Indeed, MDC offers the possibility of controlling easily the amount of redundancy introduced in the transmitted signal while maintaining good quality decoding even when the channel is noiseless. However, to our knowledge, few work have been dedicated to the tuning of the redundancy parameter according to the channel noise level. Moreover, in case of non stationary channel a solution must be found to adapt automatically the amount of redundancy in order to maintain transmission quality. In this paper, we propose a MDC method that estimates the amount of source redundancy that must be dispatched between the different descriptors according to the channel state. This method includes a wavelet transform and an optimal bit allocation process of the binary ressources across the different descriptors and the different wavelet subbands. It takes into account the knowledge of the channel impulse response which is time variable and reflects accurately the propagation conditions encountered in a real environment. We focus on radio frequency wireless transmission. [continued on the next page]

Channel-Adaptive Resource Allocation for Video Transmission over 3G Wireless Network

This paper addresses the important issues of resource allocation for video transmission over 3G wireless network. By taking the time-varying wireless channel/network condition and video codec characteristic into account, we allocate resource between source and channel coders based on the minimum-distortion or minimum-power criterion. Specifically, we first present how to estimate the time-varyi...

Multi-User Video Streaming over Multiple Heterogeneous Wireless Networks: A Distributed, Cross-Layer Design Paradigm

In this paper, we address the problem of QoS (Quality of Service) provisioning for multi-user video streaming over multiple heterogeneous wireless networks based on the distributed, cross-layer design framework. By jointly considering the rate allocation and the Joint Source-Channel Coding (JSCC), our proposal aims at maximizing the QoS provisioning under the given resource constraint. At first...

Multi-User Adaptive Resource Allocation Scheme for WLAN OFDM-MIMO Transmission

. Orthogonal Frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has recently been proposed for use in high data-rate wireless systems. OFDM has an important property of spectrum utilization technique that distributes each tone, which is orthogonal with every other tone. The system capacity can be significantly improved by multiple transmit and receive antennas that are used to form Multi-input multi-output...

Modulation level allocation for MGS streaming over a multihop wireless channel

This article introduces a method for efficiently transmitting medium grain scalable video packets over a transmission path consisting of multiple wireless links. Medium grain scalability provides bit rate adaptation according to the available bit rate by dropping a number of video packets in the compressed bit stream. In other words, rate-distortion control can be achieved by means of packet tr...
